Students from George Brown College win CGA Ontario’s top student accounting competition

KINGSTON, ON (March 30, 2012) — A team of three students from George Brown College earned top prize during Certified General Accountants of Ontario’s Annual Case Competition.

Luke Mydlarz, Larry Lam and Kevin Luc were named top accounting students following the full-day competition hosted at St. Lawrence College on March 24, 2012. Each winner received a scholarship for $1,500 into the CGA program of professional studies.

“I’m still on cloud nine, it was such a surreal experience,” said Larry Lam. “It was a great opportunity to learn, develop and compete against fellow peers and future industry colleagues.”

“It was exciting to watch this talented group of students from Ontario colleges compete during these demanding challenges,” said event organizer Michelle Paquin, CGA. “The scholarships awarded to top students will help them do more with their careers as they pursue a CGA designation.”

The winners from George Brown College battled more than 20 teams from across Ontario during intense competitions in case preparation, social challenges and a quiz bowl. In total, nearly $10,000 in scholarships were awarded including second place champions John Carpenter and John Umunna from St. Lawrence College and third place finishers Brian Sanchez and Stephanie Colquhoun from Fanshawe College.

As winners of this year’s event, George Brown College earned hosting privileges for the 2013 edition of CGA Ontario’s Annual Case Competition.
