CGA Ontario Congratulates Post-Secondary School Accounting Contest Winners!

TORONTO, ON, April 2, 2009 — The Certified General Accountants of Ontario (CGA Ontario) congratulates all seven winners of the one‐hour online accounting contest that took place March 18, 2009. Eligible and registered post-secondary school student contestants across Ontario had the option to enter the contest at either the basic ‐ intermediate tier level or intermediate ‐ advanced tier level, whichever best suited their skill level and education. Each tier consisted of 100 multiple‐choice questions with a financial accounting focus.

Winners will receive a cash prize and a scholarship worth $5,000 towards the CGA program of professional studies. Furthermore, the accounting department at the university of the two first‐place tier winners will receive a donation of $5,000 from CGA Ontario. Media photo opportunities are available for those wishing to capture the award ceremonies at the various universities.

The 2009 on‐line accounting contest winners include:

Basic ‐ Intermediate Tier 1 Winners:

1st place – Katty Chau of Wilfrid Laurier University; to be awarded $4,000 cash and a scholarship worth $5,000 towards the CGA program of professional studies.
2nd place – Giacomo Giorgio of Ryerson University; to be awarded $2,000 cash and a scholarship worth $5,000 towards the CGA program of professional studies.
3rd place – Winston Chiu of Queen’s University; to be awarded $1,000 cash and a scholarship worth $5,000 towards the CGA program of professional studies.


Intermediate ‐ Advanced Tier 2 Winners:

1st place – Moriah Shemer of York University – Schulich School of Business; to be awarded $5,000 cash and a scholarship worth $5,000 towards the CGA program of professional studies.
2nd place – Ian Thomas and Junaid Alam of Ryerson University; to be awarded $3,000 cash and a scholarship worth $5,000 towards the CGA program of professional studies.
3rd place – Adele McGee of Carleton University; to be awarded $1,500 cash and a scholarship worth $5,000 towards the CGA program of professional studies.
