TORONTO, April 15, 2010 — Certified General Accountants of Ontario, George Brown’s School of Business and its students celebrate the new accreditation of the bachelor of applied business degree, financial services, accounting program which provides George Brown graduates with the requirements necessary for direct entry into the CGA program of studies at the certification level. Students in this applied degree program are now on the fast-track to a CGA designation while still in school.

“We are very pleased to have finalized this agreement with the Certified General Accountants of Ontario,” said Elizabeth Speers, Director of George Brown College’s Centre for Business. “For our students, obtaining a valuable professional designation such as the CGA is a great way to accelerate their career goals and increase their options.”

George Brown’s bachelor of applied business (financial services) degree was developed with assistance of local employers to create graduates who can thrive in today's financial services industry – The only applied degree in financial services in Ontario that includes majors in accounting and personal financial planning.

“This is a significant achievement for George Brown College, one that will open the door to career opportunities and future successes for George Brown’s bachelor of applied business, financial services, accounting graduates," said Doug Brooks, FCGA, CEO, Certified General Accountants of Ontario. “The CGA designation tells an employer that a prospect is well equipped to add value to any organization.”

Diverse and highly skilled, CGAs have achieved a respected designation through rigorous academic training and intense real-world experience. They’re trained to look beyond the numbers, drawing on their broad learning and individual strengths to facilitate problem solving and provide leadership across industries and within changing business realities.

CGA Ontario grants the exclusive rights to the CGA designation, and controls the professional standards, conduct and discipline of its members and students in Ontario, where there are 20,000 CGAs and approximately 8,000 students working towards their designation. www.cga-ontario.org / www.cga-domore.org / www.facebook.com/cga
