Associations Announce Strategic Alliance Broadening Professional Development Competencies

TORONTO, Ontario, April 8, 2010 — Certified General Accountants of Ontario (CGA Ontario) and Human Resources Professionals Association (HRPA) have embarked on a new partnership, designed to provide their respective members with ready access to each others’ core expertise and professional development opportunities. This includes, among other initiatives, professional development certification in financial management for human resources professionals and human resources certification opportunities for certified general accountants (CGAs).

“CGAs fill key management roles in many organizations. Our partnership will enhance their knowledge of HR so that they can make informed decisions leading to higher employee engagement and productivity.  Their expertise will help our membership better understand and articulate the inter-relationship between workforce strategy and financial performance, said Bill Greenhalgh, CEO, Human Resources Professionals Association.”

This partnership will open doors to many opportunities for CGAs and HR professionals, ranging from joint events to editorial initiatives through their respective trade publications Statements and HR Professional to shared webcasts, and more.

“We’re proud to offer HR professionals the chance to expand their professional development knowledge beyond their traditional expertise”, said Doug Brooks, FCGA, CEO, Certified General Accountants of Ontario. “We know how important HR competencies are for many CGAs and are very pleased to partner with HRPA to deliver that skill set. Responsibilities between these two professions often overlap in SME environments so this partnership will deliver value to both memberships.”

The Human Resources Professionals Association (HRPA) is Canada’s HR thought leader and the largest HR association in the country. In Ontario, HRPA regulates the HR profession and issues the Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation, the national standard for excellence in human resources management, as well as the Senior Human Resources Professional (SHRP), reserved for high-impact HR leaders. HRPA has more than 19,000 members in 28 chapters and hosts the second largest annual HR conference in North America. www.hrpa.ca

CGA Ontario grants the exclusive rights to the CGA designation, and controls the professional standards, conduct and discipline of its members and students in Ontario, where there are 20,000 CGAs and approximately 8,000 students working towards their designation. CGAs are trained to look beyond the numbers, drawing on their broad learning and individual strengths to facilitate problem solving and provide leadership across industries and within changing business realities. www.cga-ontario.org / www.cga-more.org.
