Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, is a progressive, modern and sophisticated city with all of the amenities of a much larger community and a population of over 80,000 people. Situated at the midpoint between northwestern and northeastern Ontario and at the heart of the Great Lakes, it is the midpoint of Canada.
Located on the Canada-U.S. border, Sault Ste. Marie is actually the starting point for the popular U.S. expressway I-75, which winds uninterrupted from Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, through the U.S., stopping in Miami, Florida.
Sault College and Algoma University (a branch of Laurentian University) are the city’s local post-secondary institutions. Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, is another popular post-secondary facility that many local students attend.
Currently, Sault Ste. Marie Chapter has approximately 59 CGAs and 14 students in the CGA program. The majority of members live within the city; however, some members live as far east as Elliot Lake and as far north as Wawa. The major employers of Sault Chapter CGAs include the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, BDO Dunwoody and a variety of industries such as healthcare, government and private practice.
Tammy Buchanan, CGA, is Sault Ste. Marie Chapter's 2012-13 committee chair. If you would like to learn more about the chapter or have any questions or comments, please contact us via email at: sault@cga-ontario.org.
