Transfer Credits

General Information About Transfer Credit Policies

Streamline learning with course transfer credits

Students who have completed courses at a university, college or professional association, whose content and standards are deemed equivalent to courses in the CGA program, may be eligible for transfer credits. Refer to Ontario post-secondary College or University transfer credit policies.

To request transfer credits, complete and forward the following items to CGA Ontario’s office:

  • Application for transfer credits
  • Official transcripts of marks
  • Official degree certificate (for Non-Canadian Universities)
  • Resume

For Non-Canadian Universities, kindly provide notarized copies of your original transcripts and degree certificates for your diploma, undergraduate, graduate, post-graduate and/or certificate studies. If you are a member of a professional association, an official letter of good standing is required along with official transcripts.

*Note: A notarized copy of an official transcript is a true copy of the original document that is stamped, dated, and signed by a notary public, designated accountant, lawyer, financial institution manager, or a post-secondary registrar.

The post-secondary institution or professional association must send all official sealed transcripts and letters of good standing directly or students may hand deliver or mail unopened official documents to the CGA Ontario office. This policy covers both Canadian and International documents.

If transcripts are not in English, we require an official notarized translation in English and the official non-translated transcript. Send both directly to CGA Ontario. All official documents are the property of CGA Ontario and are not released to third parties.

In addition, potential students who have completed courses at educational institutions and professional associations outside Canada may be asked to provide a course syllabus.

CGA Ontario will contact you if all expected documents are not received within 20, 40 and 60 days of receiving your application for transfer credits. When all expected documents are received, you will be advised that your application is being forwarded for evaluation.

When your transfer credit assessment report is completed, you will be notified and given access to view the report online.  The report will also be mailed to you.  If you have any questions about the results of your transfer credit assessment, please contact CGA Ontario.

We keep transfer credit evaluation reports on file for 1 year.  Applicants can forward additional transcripts and documents with new information during this period of time.  If applicants do not enrol as a student within the 1 year period, transfer credits must be re-evaluated.

CGA Ontario may deny transfer credits for courses that are deemed to be outdated. In addition, we reserve the right to require special studies for students who are granted transfer credits.

Enrolling in a course for which you have received a transfer credit voids that transfer credit.

For information on course transfer credits, see the application for transfer credits, found here: http://www.cga-ontario.org/assets/file/CGAO_AppForTransferCredit.pdf.

Prove course mastery through challenge exams

The manager of admissions registration may permit a once-only challenge exam for advanced level equivalent courses if there is doubt that a transfer credit is justified. Challenge exams are written within one year of enrolment in the program. A student who is unsuccessful in a challenge exam must enrol in the CGA course. The fee for a challenge exam includes the lesson notes for the course.

Students may purchase other applicable course material from CGA Ontario. Enrolling in a course for which a student previously received the challenge exam privilege voids that privilege.

Length of time in the program

The number of academic years allowed in the program is determined during the first academic year of enrolment. The time limit is based on the number of transfer credits.

Maximum # of years allowed to complete CGA program

Students are allowed an additional two years to obtain a degree.

Regardless of which session the student is registered in initially, we count it as a full academic year for time-limit purposes.
