You need Canada’s most adaptable professional accounting designation.
The CGA program respects and accommodates your personal learning style, career
goals and lifestyle. Here are some of the numerous options available for integrating
learning and advancement into the unique realities of your educational, career
and personal life.
Begin at your optimum level
Enter the CGA program at a level that is consistent with your
educational background. If you are new to accounting education, you can enter
at level 1. If you’ve already completed equivalent courses at an approved post-secondary
institution, you may apply for transfer credits to enter at a more advanced
level.
Access innovative study options
CGA Ontario’s use of innovative educational technologies provides
you with an efficient and flexible learning environment. Internet and business
software technologies offer the advantages of independent and collaborative
learning. Our integrated technology allows you to network, with course directors,
tutors and colleagues studying in the CGA program from almost anywhere.
Leverage your experience and interests
Take advantage of the practical experience standard of the
CGA program of professional studies. Leverage your interests and determine the
avenue you want to pursue in your financial career. Exciting and rewarding opportunities
for CGAs exist in all financial and accounting-related employment sectors and
roles.
Tailor studies to your desired career path
Enjoy unique opportunities to tailor your professional studies
to complement your desired career path. In the professional applications and
competency evaluations (PACE) level, there are 14 different career specialties
from which you may choose. They span every industry—including corporate and
small- to medium-sized enterprises, information technology, government and not-for-profit
and public practice—to meet the needs of every accounting professional in every
sector.
Maximize efficiency with integrated degree studies
To maintain open access and flexibility, CGA Ontario’s degree
requirement is not administered as an entrance requirement, but as a requirement
prior to certification. Before your CGA designation is granted, you must hold
a degree in any field from an approved, degree-granting institution. If you
are entering the CGA program without a degree, take advantage of the exclusive,
highly efficient opportunities we offer to complete a bachelor’s degree concurrent
with your CGA studies. For more information about degree opportunities available
to students in the CGA program, see

Meet the Degree Requirement.
Retain the flexibility to transfer to other provinces
The CGA designation is recognized throughout Canada and around
the world. As a student in the CGA program you have the portability to “transfer”
your designation from province to province across the country.
Earn while you learn
Enjoy the benefits of a full-time salary and career advancement
while learning as a part-time student. The CGA program is designed to encourage
you to work full-time in an accounting or financial management related position,
while completing your CGA program of studies.
Benefit from a highly effective job-finding service
CGA Ontario provides an online employment referral service
for students in the CGA program located in the student section of CGA Ontario’s
website. Employers from around the province advertise a full-range of accounting
and financial management positions on our service. Our employment referral service
will likely become your primary job-hunting tool.
