Darren Bruce, CGA, Tax Specialist – South Western Ontario Region, KPMG LLP
One of the things that appealed to me about the CGA
program of professional studies is its flexibility. This flexibility
enabled me to study anytime and anywhere, all the while working
full-time in public accounting. Working while studying meant I
immediately applied learning to my place of employment. In turn, this
enhanced my comprehension of the material, and allowed me to apply my
newly acquired knowledge on real-life examples, using actual clients.
Completing the CGA program was complemented by
opportunities to progress quickly in my career.Annual appraisals were
always very exciting; each year spent studying I became more valuable to
the firm where I am employed. I am very proud of my CGA designation and
what it has done for me.

Manos, CGA,
Manager, Financial Accounting,
Molson
We all choose different paths in our lives. The
path that I chose allowed me the flexibility to achieve my CGA
designation, while pursuing my other dreams. While my journey was
demanding, it was equally rewarding and fulfilling. While working full time, I completed college
courses, which were eligible for transfer to my CGA program of studies
at level 3. Pursuing my CGA designation worked extremely well for me,
because it allowed me to marry, have a family, work full time, get
valuable work experience and complete the program at my own pace.
Even if you have a busy and full life, you can
pursue this goal in tandem with your other life goals. By working at
your own pace, and taking one small step at a time, you can achieve all
your dreams.

Michel Floréal, CGA,
Finance Officer and Major,
Department of Defence
As a finance officer with the Canadian Forces for
20 years, I’ve served this country both in Canada and on deployed
operations to foreign lands. My job has provided me with a life that
isn’t available to many rich and varied experiences, despite the obvious
dangers, challenges and the personal sacrifices that one must make. The fragile equilibrium of work/study/life balance
was difficult to achieve; however, with encouragement from my family,
and the financial backing and support from my superiors, I preserved and
earned my certified general accountant designation.
With my CGA designation in hand, the future looks
very promising.I look forward to continuing my fulfilling career with
the Canadian Forces, but now as a certified general accountant.
